JOE DELLAVECCHIA - HEAD COACH

​

Joe Dellavecchia has been coaching at St. Joe’s for 25 years, serving as head coach since 1998. A 1981 graduate of the school, he played both football (all-league 1979, 1980) and baseball (all-league 1981) while at St. Joe’s, and has been directly involved in six of St. Joe’s ten state football championships; first as a player, he was captain of the 1980 team – the first football state championship in school history; as an assistant coach (1988, 1989, and 1990), and as head coach (2009, 2010).

​

He has also won numerous coaching awards over the years; CHSCA Assistant Coach of the Year (1997), FCIAC Coach of the Year (2005, 2009), CT Post Coach of the Year (2009), New Haven Register Coach of the Year (2010), National Football Foundation Coach of the Year (2009, 2010).  â€‹

​

Coach Dell has the unique distinction of winning a state football championship at the same school as a player, an assistant coach, a head coach, and while coaching his son, Joseph, who was an all-state quarterback on the 2009 and 2010 state championship teams.

​

​In addition to coaching football at St. Joes, Coach Dell was an assistant coach for the school's 2006, 2007 and 2012 girl's state championship softball teams, and is currently an assistant girls lacrosse coach.

​

A teacher in the Stratford school system, he is married to the former Kathleen Morrissey (SJ 1981), and they have four children; Christine (SJ 2009), Joseph (SJ 2011), Lauren (SJ 2013), Kara (SJ 2015).

CHRIS SADLER - DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR

Coach Sadler is a entering his 8th year as a member of the footall staff, serving as Defensive Coordinator. A 2001 graduate of St. Joe's and former player under Coach Dellavecchia, he served as captain and received All-FCIAC honors in his senior year.  He went on to play defensive end at Division II Stonehill College.  Coach Sadler is a math teacher at Newtown HS, and resides in Bridgeport with his wife Kim.

JIM LUCHANSKY - ASSISTANT COACH

​

Coach Luchansky has been teaching and coaching football at St. Joe’s for 32 years, and also serves as head freshman coach. A 1975 graduate of St. Joe’s, lettering in football, basketball and baseball, Coach Luchansky has also coached baseball here from 1984 – 1994, winning a state championship in 1985. Also a Division I college basketball referee, he lives in Shelton with his wife Peggy Kelley Luchansky (’75), son Kevin (’04) and daughter’s Emily (’07) and Kathryn (’12).​

JIM CHAVES - ASSISTANT COACH

​

Coach Chaves is entering his 10th season as a member of the St. Joe’s football staff, working with receivers and helping coordinate the offense. A 1998 graduate of St. Joe’s, he was a two year starter in football (2nd Team All-FCIAC in 1997), and a three year starter in baseball (twice named All-FCIAC East), serving as captain of the Cadet’s 1998 FCIAC Championship team. He played collegiate baseball at the College of St. Rose in Albany, NY, and was member of 2000 Golden Knights' team that reached the Division II College World Series. Also serving as St. Joe's varsity baseball coach, his 2013 team won the CT Class M State Championship. Coach Chaves resides in Stratford with his wife Christine.

DAVE HASHEMI - ASSISTANT COACH

Coach Hashemi is entering his fifth year as a member of the St. Joe’s football staff, having served as a freshman assistant in 2008, and as varsity defensive line coach and JV head coach since 2009. A St. Joe’s graduate (Class of 2007), Coach Hashemi lettered in both football and basketball as a student here. He also coaches basketball, having served as the JV coach at Joel Barlow  HS in 2009 before returning to St. Joe’s as an assistant coach in 2010. Coach Hashemi holds a BA from Southern CT State University  and works in the strength & conditioning field.

CHRIS BUGYI - ASSISTANT COACH

Coach Bugyi enters his fifth season as a member of the St. Joe’s football staff, and is a 1999 graduate of Milford Academy, where he played football  and baseball. Prior to joining the Hog's staff, Coach Bugyi spent 10 years as a football assistant at West Haven HS under former St. Joe's coach Ed McCarthy. He has served as baseball recruiting cordinator at the Community College of Rhode Island from 2004-2007, and held the same position at University of Bridgeport from 2008 - 2009. He is also a baseball coach at St. Joe's, and has coached Trumbull's American Legion team from 2006-2012. Coach Bugyi works at Jonathon Law HS in Milford and currently lives in Stratford

JOHN FINAN - ASSISTANT COACH

​

Coach Finan is in his third year as freshmen wide receivers coach.  A St. Joe’s graduate (Class of 2006),  he played football all four years while attending St. Joe’s, and received the Spirit Award, signifying his commitment to his school, his coaches and his teammates, as senior.  Finan also served as the varsity baseball team’s manager his junior and senior year.  A 2010 graduate of Springfield College, Coach Finan works for United Healthcare.

BRENNAN FRAZCEK- ASSISTANT COACH

Coach Fraczek, a first year member of the St. Joe’s football staff,  returns to high school football for the first time since he left the field as a player at Newtown High School, where he was a member of the 1990 and 1992 class MM state championship teams. He lives in Trumbull with Johanna and their three sons Gavin, Keenan, and Beckett, and is a history teacher at Stratford High School.

DAN MCDONOUGH - HEAD TRAINER

Dan McDonagh has been the full-time Athletic Trainer for St. Joe's since 2002. He works as an outreach ATC for Rehabilitation Associates Inc. He also joined the Science department at SJ in 2003 and currently teaches Earth Science, Biology, Chemistry and Sports Medicine. He holds an undergraduate degree in Athletic Training from Castleton State College and a Master's degree in Athletic Training from Ohio University (class of 2002). He is available to every team and every student-athlete at SJ while covering all home contests and away football games. Dan and his wife Deb have two sons Josef and Tiernen, and reside in Naugatuck.

​JIM OLAYOS- ATHLETIC DIRECTOR

​Jim Olayos was named Athletic Director in the fall of 2002 after retiring from his law practice of twenty years. Under his leadership the athletics department has seen a tremendous upgrade in facilities and an expansion of the athletics staff, while eleven state championship and six FCIAC championship banners have been hung in the gymnasium. In 2010 St. Joseph was named the top high school athletic program in Connecticut by Sports Illustrated.  In 2003 he was voted one of the top 100 most influential people in Connecticut High School Sports.

Jim and his wife Kim have four sons (James (SJ 06, Casey SJ 09, Brett (SJ 12), Shea (SJ 14)  and reside in Shelton.

JIMMY OLAYOS - STRENGTH & CONDITIONING

Jimmy Olayos was a three sport athlete at St. Joe's (Football, Basketball, Baseball), serving as captain in both Basketball and Baseball in his senior year. Upon graduation, he went on to play basketball at Eastern CT State University, where he graduated at top of his class, majoring in Health & Fitness. He was also the Student Athletic Trainer for ECSU athletic department. Jim is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association. He is currently seeking his doctorate degree at Franklin Pierce University’s Doctor of Physical Therapy Program.  Jim has also worked at both Competitive Edge LLC. & Rehabilitation Associates.
